Renfrew County’s health experts are covering as much road as possible to keep resident health a top priority.
The Renfrew County and District Health Unit has been touring the Ottawa Valley since the start of fall to offer free vaccination clinics aimed at tackling respiratory illnesses, as public health nurses like Emma Ouimet meet with community members hoping to mitigate the risk of getting sick from the likes of COVID-19, the flu, and respiratory syncytial virus.
The RSV vaccine is the latest offering from the RCHDU’s clinics, as Ouimet explains how their strategy to prevent the spread has changed since the response to the COVID pandemic to offer more ways for more residents to protect themselves, especially during cold-and-flu season.
She also notes how the overall experience has improved at the clinics over the years as they transitioned from carefully isolated and sterilized hubs to community spaces that are familiar and comfortable to the people dropping by for their shots.
Vaccinations can be set aside by appointment through the RCDHU portal, but Ouimet says there is the chance that there will be enough leftover doses to accept drop-ins depending on availability.
