On Saturday Nov. 1, myFM presented the cheque to RMHA | Mik Horvath/MBC
At the beginning of October My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) President Jon Pole wanted to utilize the power of local radio to unite the community under one common goal; to help kids get on the ice.
The 96 Hockey Heroes fundraising campaign launched and myFM was seeking 96 individuals to donate $96 to support the Renfrew Minor Hockey Association (RMHA) in a week’s time.
It turns out the fundraiser was so successful that myFM extended the donation period and once everything was completely wrapped up a total of $12,080 was raised for RMHA.
MBC President Jon Pole said Renfrew has an unwavering spirit for generosity which is partly why the fundraiser was so successful.
The money will help those who cannot afford costs relating to the association, such as registration or tournament fees, equipment costs and helping those out in a tough spot.
Pole also serves as president for RMHA and he said sitting that position makes one truly see the cost that goes into organized sports and he wanted the fundraiser to act as a financial cushion to ease the costs.
Even though myFM was looking for 96 Hockey Heroes that definition doesn’t necessarily mean 96 individual people, a few organizations donated as well such as the Renfrew Millionaires Hockey Club and Renfrew’s Rusty Blades who each donated around $1000.
Pole said the power of local radio is important in connecting the community to overcome common obstacles.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, myFM presented the $12,080 cheque to RMHA.
