As local hunters head into the wilderness to enjoy the spoils of deer season, Renfrew County’s paramedics are asking for them to do so safely.
The County of Renfrew Paramedic Services wants safety to be the first tradition you recognize during hunting season, noting that most medical emergencies out in the bush happen due to overexertion and not injuries.
Hunters should plan ahead, stay hydrated, and not hesitate to call for help when needed, adding that people heading out for the hunt can make it easier on paramedics by knowing where they are, having a fully charged phone or GPS on hand, and letting someone know where they will be and when they will be back.
The Paramedic Service also says safety extends to after the hunt, urging hunters to limit celebrations to back at camp and to do so responsibly once the day is done.
