Local Government Week was a thrilling chance for the Town of Renfrew to share what they do best with the next generation.
Communications & Engagement Coordinator Hannah MacMillan says that, among the many showcases of civic pride over the past week, was the opportunity for a few classes from Queen Elizabeth Public School to drop by council chambers to hear from staff leading the town’s various departments to learn how they help keep the community running.
Students were delighted by the opportunity to explore the town’s council chambers and imitate the actual town council by using their microphones to ask questions of staff, particularly towards the local bylaw officer, Fire Chief Mike Guest, and a surprising amount of questions for the town’s environmental team.
MacMillan says that the town is never shy when it comes to sharing what they do for the community, adding that town hall is already in discussions with a few local schools in hopes of inspiring future municipal employees.
She adds that the town is proud to have been able to join municipalities from across Ontario in sharing their accomplishments with the community.
