The new St. Thomas the Apostle School in Renfrew is more than just bricks and mortar, according to the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board.
The school board marked a major milestone in the school’s history with the grand opening of its new, state-of-the-art building earlier this month, as students, staff, families, and community leaders celebrated the next chapter for the community.
RCCDSB Chair Bob Schreader says the new school opens “a new world of opportunities” for students, calling St. Thomas “a place where faith and knowledge will grow hand-in-hand, empowering students to become the leaders and servants our community needs.”
Meanwhile, Principal Sally Douglas says the $22 million facility gives the school’s staff “the environment they deserve,” adding that the new learning spaces will allow St. Thomas the Apostle to provide hands-on, innovative experiences that will spark curiosity among students.
The grand opening ceremony held an extra special significance with the dedication of the new gym to former principal Harold Bolger, who served 26 years at this school, as well as the unveiling of a new mural of the seven grandfather teachings on the doors of the front entrance created by artist Connor Sarazin.
