This week the Town of Renfrew is celebrating Local Government Week and this year they are highlighting a homogenous and impactful community.
In a joint statement, the Town of Renfrew said Local Government Week is a time to recognize the level of government closest to home.
“It maintains our parks, roads, and recreation facilities, supports local programs and initiatives, and helps create the spaces where our community can thrive,” the Town said.
One example of community connection they highlight are their communal garden plots such as those located in Oddfellows Park on Sydney Ave.
There are 67 total plots in the town with 34 being dedicated to the Renfrew and District Food Bank.
Mike Wright of the Renfrew and District Food Bank said it’s a longstanding partnership enshrouded in compassion.
“This partnership started 5 years ago and ensures that our clients have fresh grown food all summer,” Wright said.
Town Hall also invited a group of students from Queen Elizabeth Public School to see firsthand what it’s like to be part of local government.
The eager students filled the ranks of council, learning about the various departments and how they keep the town running.
Keep an eye out on the town’s socials to see how they continue to celebrate Local Government Week.
