Local police will be watching closely as people hit the road over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
Officers with detachments from across Renfrew County will be taking part in a national four-day traffic safety initiative they are calling Operation Impact, a Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police-led safety campaign targeting aggressive, distracted, and alcohol-and-drug-impaired driving, as well as seat belt non-compliance.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Constable Mike Mahon says motorists can expect patrol cars to be highly visible throughout the weekend, ensuring drivers are doing their part to keep themselves, their passengers, and those with whom they share the road safe.
He says drivers should remove distractions when possible, buckle up, obey posted speed limits, and drive sober to make the holiday weekend safe for all road users.
