We couldn’t have done it without you, and there’s still time to take part.
96.1 myFM met with community members outside Gourley’s Outdoors on Thursday, October 9th, to celebrate the success of the 96 Hockey Heroes fundraising blitz, which saw over 130 people and organizations put down $96 each towards a new fund that will make sure any kid in Renfrew who wants to play local minor hockey can do so.
Dave Gallagher, one of the captains of a local four-team gentleman’s league, says each team pitched in a full donation to the cause in hopes that it will encourage the community to follow suit.
Meanwhile, Boston Pizza’s Wendy Birch was thrilled to be part of the campaign as its title sponsor, adding that she has the unique privilege of serving minor hockey teams from all over the Ottawa Valley who make a visit to her restaurant on O’Brien Road part of their game day routine.
Keith Gourley, who played host to Thursday’s celebratory barbeque, is no stranger to how youth sports can have a positive impact on Renfrew’s young residents, having been a longtime sponsor, manager, coach, and trainer within the Renfrew Minor Hockey Association.
If you have missed out on the chance to be a part of the ongoing 96 Hockey Heroes campaign so far, myFM will continue accepting donations online for another week.
