We’re only a few short days away from October 25th when the inaugural “Jamie Bramburger Fall Classic” comes to The PMC and it’s going to be far more than just a game of hockey.
I had the chance to sit down with two gentlemen who are very much involved with the event and who both knew Jamie well over many years of hockey and Algonquin College involvement.
Fred Blackstein is known throughout the Valley as ” The Volunteer Extraordinaire” and his ties to Jamie go back a long way to the early days of Algonquin College. Fred remembers how the College’s slogan came to be:
Blackstein had the opportunity many times over the years to liaise with Jamie on a number of projects but uppermost in his mind is the development of what is now the current Algonquin College Campus.
Despite the reticence of the Ottawa Campus to move forward with the current design a little over 12 years ago both he and Bramburger persevered and brought it to fruition:
Jerry Novack is the driving force behind the “Classic” and he has worked tirelessly with a host of local businesses and individuals to make this thing happen. The preparation work goes back several months from the idea stage to ironing out the final details necessary for the 25th. Jerry tells us how the idea came about:
Once the idea came to light and he had the overwhelming buy in and support of the Bramburger Family, it was time to roll up the sleeves and put a Team together – and that he did which he says has been invaluable in getting the project off the ground.
Novack remembers what brought him and Jamie together in the first place way back when:
