96.1 myFM is looking for 96 local hockey heroes who can help make sure every kid gets to play.
General manager Bob Dillabough says talks between the station and the Renfrew Minor Hockey Association on how to ensure no kid gets turned away due to financial constraints have turned into a week-long rally to raise funds starting this Thursday, October 2nd.
Dillabough, who was a coach for RMHA teams over many years, agrees that something needs to be done to replace the multiple resources that Renfrew’s sporting community used to rely on for immediate help when families struggled with registration and equipment costs.
He adds that having access to organized sports is an amazing asset for the community’s youth, who get to learn the values of teamwork, exercise, and lifelong friendships as they grow up in the system.
On top of a limited-edition commemorative mug filled with coupons from supporting local businesses, the first 96 people to donate will also be invited to a community barbeque slated for later in October.
The deadline to be part of the 96 Hockey Heroes effort is Thursday, October 9th. More details can be found on our website.
