Renfrew Minor Hockey has had a big impact on the town for many years, but how can the community respond in kind?
RMHA President Jon Pole recently posed that question on myFM in the Morning, reflecting on the many coaches, volunteers, and friends who shaped his time as a youth growing up in the program, calling them the reason he chose to be part of the organization once his kids chose to lace up their skates.
Pole thinks that there is a new need for a locally focused fund in the same vein as Sport Renfrew, who he recalls were instrumental in helping countless families to ensure their children could develop skills, get active, and form bonds with friends.
While modern supports exist through Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart, the County of Renfrew, and even the occasional ability for the association to help, Pole says those often come with strings attached that make helping cover registration or replacement equipment difficult in the moment.
He also believes that the current group of leaders running operations within Renfrew’s minor hockey leagues are some of the best the RMHA has had, and it would be worthwhile to ensure as many kids as possible can be part of the experience.
