Renfrew’s Jr. A Wolves are walking into Friday night’s home opener on a high note and with great expectations for the year.
The club’s general manager, Jarrett DeFazio, says the team’s 4-0 shutout win in Hawkesbury last weekend shows an encouraging amount of confidence and comfort as a unit ahead of their return to the myFM Centre for the first time this season.
It’s a mood that’s perfect for an evening that will put friends and neighbours into the spotlight, as they are joined by prominent community figures to enjoy a pre-game performance by the SALC 25-piece brass ensemble ahead of honouring the achievements of Renfrew’s Special Olympics athletes alongside Kawartha Dairy, who will be serving up their own Wolf Paws ice cream that evening.
DeFazio and his coaching staff have set a goal to use the foundation they have built to leapfrog out of the league’s basement and into a playoff spot, noting that last year’s successes didn’t always show up in their record but were clear to see on the ice.
He adds that the entire organization is thrilled to welcome the fans back to the rink this weekend, providing an exciting experience while also acting as a hub for the community during the coldest time of year.
The team is also excited to put on their first-ever golf tournament at Dragonfly Golf Links on October 4th, where the community can form trios for a day on the fairways with a Wolves player and win a share of over $5,000 in prizes in support of minor hockey.
