Renfrew has been a part of the Terry Fox Run’s journey from the very start, and that’s not about to change this weekend.
The 45th Annual Terry Fox Run gets underway this Sunday, September 14th, as runners take off from outside the myFM Centre in honour of Terry Fox’s 1980 Marathon of Hope, a moment burned into the memory of local organizer Dan Donohue.
Donohue, who was part of Renfrew’s first ever run supporting cancer research all the way back in 1981, says the community can pick a distance and run on their own or form a team to tackle the trip up Renfrew’s gorgeous Millennium Trail.
He also notes that they could use a few more volunteers on hand this Sunday, and donations are always welcomed through the Terry Fox Foundation website if you prefer just to give.
Renfrew has historically been eager to pitch in to help the Terry Fox Run, bringing in an estimated $545,000 for cancer research over the last 45 years. Donohue adds that the foundation has been effective with the massive amount of funds the annual run has brought in from around the world.
Renfrew residents have already pulled together more than $8,000 of this year’s $12,000 goal, a response that Donohue is thankful for, as the day could use all the help it can get each and every year.
