The previous location of St. Thomas the Apostle before it was demolished.
At the beginning of the year the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB) announced the official opening of their brand new location of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School.
The school is now physically attached to St. Joseph’s Catholic High School and also acts as an extension to the high school.
The plan to demolish and reconstruct St. Thomas was approved by Ministry of Education in 2022.
Now the previous location is closed off and fully demolished, but the property will still prove useful to the board.
RCCDSB Communications Officer, Kylie Gibson, said the old property is still owned by the board and will make way for a parking lot and student-oriented play spaces.
She said the board is “looking forward to having the new spaces complete!”
Talks with St. Thomas faculty revealed that the new parking facilities will provide a more fluid system for pick-up and drop-off for parents making the flow of traffic on First Street safer for students, staff and parents.
