The town of Renfrew is setting aside a date later this year to honour the professionals caring for our kids.
Town officials have declared October 21st the Annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day in Renfrew following an appeal from the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care, who wrote to town council last month.
Reeve Peter Emon implored the rest of council to sign off on the declaration, which highlights the importance of care in early learning and the pride educators take in their work.
He also notes Renfrew County is extremely lucky, as the network of local early childhood educators and day care workers is close-knit, getting together annually for a “May Day” conference that equips them with the tools they need to handle difficult topics like trauma-informed care and complex childhood trauma.
The OCBCC is encouraging municipalities to mark October 21st by raising a purple flag or organizing a purple light display, promoting the day with their supplied poster and buttons, and by either organizing events or joining events already set to be hosted by local child care centres.
