The 170th annual Renfrew Fair was able to end on a high note despite the weather raining on their parade early on.
After kicking off festivities under a pair of wet days, Administrative Coordinator Judy Dobec says Saturday and Sunday were perfect as people from across the Ottawa Valley dropped by to enjoy a packed schedule of events and entertainment, plus adrenaline-pumping games and rides and the all-important showcase of local agricultural feats.
She adds that this year will be remembered for a particular feather in the local agricultural society’s cap thanks to an all-time record turnout for the always popular heavy horse pull, which saw the livestock pens overflowing with Ottawa Valley farms all competing for top honours.
Dobec and Fair Director Jim Enright were also thrilled with the massive attendance for Saturday night’s demolition derby as hundreds of guests circled the pit at the heart of the fairgrounds to watch the mayhem up close.
Enright says the derby, which gathers drivers and vehicles from all over Renfrew County for a night of hard-hitting fun, is always a highlight for fairgoers and volunteers alike.
While the 170th edition of the Renfrew Fair is now in the books, the Renfrew Agricultural Society’s work is never done, as preparations for next year are already underway.
