One of Oakes' favourite quotes is "It Takes a Village," a sentiment that reflects on how everyone is able to benefit everyone with just a little bit of help.
Renfrew is home to many public services who’s lifeblood is supplied by the efforts of their volunteers.
Ben Oakes is very involved with Renfrew’s community; he sits as chair for the DRBIA and also provides the public with financial advice which is particularly helpful during stressful economic times.
However, Oakes values a traditional way of helping his community, getting everyone involved.
He highlights that any person can prove themselves useful and the community needs to take advantage of a diverse population’s skillset.
There are multiple organizations in Renfrew that always need an extra set of hands and a few of these organizations will be attending the upcoming Community Volunteer Fair to show Renfrew how exactly they need assistance.
Oakes said volunteering is a very fulfilling way of giving back which results in a win-win for everyone.
