The Financial Accountability Office of Ontario says the province lost 38,000 jobs in the second quarter of 2025.
The April-to-June losses were concentrated in manufacturing, business support services, information, culture and recreation, transportation, warehousing and agriculture.
At the same time, Ontario saw gains in finance, insurance, real estate, wholesale and retail trade, professional, scientific and technical services and utilities.
The FAO says the unemployment rate rose to 7.8 per cent in the quarter. Statistics Canada’s most recent local data, released in May, put Petawawa’s unemployment rate at 7.2 per cent.
