Guests take in the glow of the midway at the 2024 Renfrew Fair
As the final touches on this year’s Renfrew Fair are put in place, the people running the show remind you that the event runs on local efforts.
The gates open for the 170th edition of the local fair this Thursday, September 4th, at noon, promising four days of thrilling midway rides and games, exciting scenes at Friday’s BMX show and Saturday’s demolition derby, 4-H Club demonstrations, horse and pony pulls, cattle shows, and live entertainment to keep the party rolling each evening.
Administrative Coordinator Judy Dobec says that, while headlines like Big Sugar, the Alan Jackson Experience, and Gail Gavan will have the Armouries packed, guests can also enjoy a fine selection of homegrown talent during a special presentation.
Local agriculture also plays a huge part in the annual success of the fair, as Dobec points out that there’s big business happening in the livestock pens this weekend when the annual Steer, Lamb & Hog sale sees farmers from the Ottawa Valley and beyond bid on dozens of top-quality animals.
Dobec draws from personal experience to point out that local farmers put years of hard work into raising and caring for every animal that gets a moment in the spotlight this weekend.
Advanced tickets, including a special pre-sale only four-pack pass, are still on sale at Dahl’s Convenience, Gourley’s Outdoors, and Ray’s Flowers, as well as at the Fairgrounds and online.
