Police in Renfrew have revealed why some residents were asked to shelter in place on Thursday night.
On Thursday, August 28th, a woman attended a local hospital and reported that she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel on Raglan Street North. She would add that the male suspect, who is known to her, was in possession of a handgun.
The suspect was seen in the area of the motel but fled onto the Algonquin Trail, prompting multiple OPP units to expand their search and issue a shelter-in-place advisory as a precaution just after 9:00 pm.
Despite an extensive pursuit, the suspect had apparently fled the scene, prompting officers to lift the advisory shortly before 1:00 am that night.
The male in question has been identified, and an arrest warrant is being sought. He is described as Black, between 5’9″ and 6’0″ tall, with hair on top of his head and shaved sides, as well as a goatee. He also has a five-star tattoo above his left eyebrow and another tattoo under his left eye. He was seen wearing a purple plaid jacket and possibly black shorts and a blue shirt.
Anyone with information or surveillance video related to the incident is urged to get in contact with the Renfrew OPP or Crime Stoppers, referring to incident E251166365.
