The first casualties of Nick Smith Centre arena revitalization are more of a precautionary nature.
Arnprior Minor Hockey has advised membership that the U15 Rep and U15 House B and C Tournament slated for October have been cancelled.
In a post to the AMHA website, Executive indicate that “Due to the timing of the Nick Smith re-opening and the significant planning and coordination required by our volunteer Managers and the Association for tournaments, AMHA has made the difficult decision to cancel two tournaments for this season that were scheduled in October.
The announcement continues, “With the uncertainty surrounding facility availability and the extensive effort needed to organize successful events, we felt it was in the best interest of everyone involved to provide clarity early. We appreciate your understanding and continued support, and we look forward to bringing this level back next year.”
Town Recreation Director Graeme Ivory indicates “the first tournament of the year was always outlined to operate as a single ice tournament- while the second could still have proceed barring any other delays”.
He say stresses the decision is the AMHA’s to make alone, and advises “All efforts are being taken to ensure the dates of September 25 (Glenn Arthur Arena) and October 25 (Bert Hall Arena) are met.”
Minor Hockey’s release concludes, “All our other tournaments are not affected at this time.”
