A Renfrew resident is at the centre of the second big lottery announcement in the Ottawa Valley over the past week.
Catherine McGonegal, a mother of two and dedicated lottery player, is celebrating after winning a $100,000 prize through OLG’s Instant Crossword Extreme scratch card game.
While she enjoys playing LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49, and a variety of INSTANT games, Crossword is one of her favourites.
“I always go to the same retailer and follow the same routine,” she said, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I was on my way to visit my daughter when I stopped by the store and picked up a couple of tickets. That day, there were only two CROSSWORD tickets at the counter. I never like leaving one behind, so I bought them both.”
After discovering the winning ticket, McGonegal was thrilled. “I thought to myself, ‘Is this real? This is unbelievable!’ I was in shock, and just then, I saw my friend walking into the store.”
Catherine notes that she never expected to win a prize like this, adding that she will be paying off her debts with the money while saving the remainder for a rainy day.
The winning ticket was purchased at O’Brien Road Variety on O’Brien Road in Renfrew.
