Renfrew made its appreciation for a local team of special needs athletes and the volunteers helping them official on Tuesday night.
Town Reeve Peter Emon stepped in for Mayor Tom Sidney to welcome the Renfrew Millionaires softball team to council chambers to acknowledge their recent success at the Special Olympics Ontario Summer Games.
Mayor Sidney had met with the team to congratulate them for the accomplishment last week, but he and his fellow council members were keen to bring them back to Town Hall in order to put the much-deserved recognition and praise on the record for the general public to see.
Emon spoke directly to the team on behalf of the town and its residents, thanking them for a level of effort that has become a source of pride for all.
Council presented each of the players and the coaching staff with an official town of Renfrew scroll and pin to mark the occasion.
