If you saw a lot of cars parked outside the former Braeside Public School on River Road last Sunday, it was for the Arnprior-McNab-Braeside Men’s Shed Buskers Cafe Good Time Show and Bake Sale.
If curiosity drew you in just after 3PM, you would have heard Darrel O’Shaughnessy welcoming the crowd and making introductions.
A laudable concept to be certain, but since the body was orphaned from Arnprior Regional Health a couple of years back, they’ve been on their own as far as support.
Municipal Grants are not an option, because the Men’s Shed are tenants at the site.
Not to worry- the Men’s Shed’s quality workmanship is in high demand.
Darrel reinforces his statement- if you’ve ever enjoyed a municipal park in the area, for example, chances are the picnic table has the Men’s Shed’s saw and hammer logo proudly stamped into the surface.
Sunday’s fundraiser treated supporters to performances arranged under the auspices of Fred Dell’Amico- he himself a retired carpenter, and colleagues from Ottawa’s Spirit of Rasputin folk collective (by donation only), and a delicious bake sale- priced to take home and enjoy.
