
The Cobden Fair is about more than farming and Valley tradition and Chris Munroe, Director of the Cobden Agricultural Society will be the first to tell you.
Skills Ontario brought their mobile Trades and Tech truck to the Fair this year and Chris and his Team were on hand to shine a light on hands on trades as a viable career path.
In todays tech laden world it’s getting increasingly more difficult to sell young people on the prospect of skilled trades where there is a country wide shortage. Chris says that a different conversation needs to be had in order to entice those who might not choose such a path. A big part of that conversation revolves around dollars and cents:
Munroe points out the the message is particularly resonant with young women these days who are gravitating more and more to skilled trades.
Hayley Mackay, Skills Ontario Trades and Tech Truck Manager has been spending the weekend instructing young folks and older alike on how to use the various simulators on the truck. Mackay says that these simulators are a very important step in introducing folks to what it might be like to operate various vehicles in the real world:
