The province is set to start spraying parts of the Ottawa Valley’s treeline at the start of next month.
The Ministry of Natural Resources will spray the pesticide glyphosate over nearly 500 hectares of local shelterwoods in order to control competing vegetation, allowing the young white and red pine, white spruce, and jack pine trees in the area to grow properly.
A revision to the annual work schedule suggests that the spraying will complete most of the tending program for the Ottawa Valley Forest region, with the rest being taken care of using brush saws.
Work is expected to start on or around September 1st and wrap up mid-month.
Residents can consult the full report on the project, including maps of the area to be sprayed, through the ministry’s information portal, while those looking for more information can contact the ministry or the project’s general manager, Nick Gooderham.
