Officials at Garrison Petawawa have revealed more details about a scary situation in their training area that happened earlier this month.
Military personnel located an unexploded ordnance along a section of the Mattawa Plains back on August 15th, just as thousands of soldiers from across Ontario were on their way to the Garrison for a massive training exercise.
Colonel S.D.C. Trenholm, Commander of the 4th Canadian Division Support Base Petawawa, notes that while their personnel are highly trained and neutralized the situation safely and without injury, “this incident serves as a reminder of the persistent risk posed by unexploded ordnances within the training area.”
Trenholm urges all individuals in the area—military and civilian alike—to remain vigilant, as “safety in the training area depends on awareness, caution, and adherence to established protocols.”
