Municipal Property Manager Jacob Collins
The roof at Renfrew’s Innovation Centre will get the repairs it needs before it turns into a larger problem.
Council awarded the contract for a partial roof replacement at 1 Innovation Drive to Garland DBS Canada and Perth Roofing on Tuesday night at the behest of Municipal Property Manager Jacob Collins, who explains that delaying the project into 2026 could lead to a larger mess than just a leaky building.
The winning bid will provisionally come in at $287,225, although Collins did note that could rise to as much as $363,507 depending on how much of the existing gypsum on the roof needs to be replaced.
However, early checks on the roof bode well for keeping the final cost low, and even the worst-case scenario will still be under the town’s $400,000 budget for the work.
The work was awarded through a unique wrinkle in the town’s new procurement policy, as they used the group purchasing organization Kinetic GPO to get the help of Garland Canada, who will in turn prepare and assist with the process for design, roofing materials, and labour at no additional cost to the town.
Chief Administrative Officer Gloria Raybone touted the use of a GPO, noting that it essentially provided the town with a project manager without going over budget.
