The people watching over Renfrew’s sewer system asking the town to watch what they flush.
Officials with the Ontario Clean Water Agency say they have observed a significant amount of wipes, rags, and other unflushable items ending up in some of the town’s sewer pipes.
OCWA reminds all Renfrew residents that items like baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, disinfectant wipes, rags, toilet bowl scrubbers, and paper towels should never be flushed, even if they are labeled as “flushable,” because they do not break down properly in the sewer system.
Those items can often lead to blockages, backups, and basement flooding in your home or your neighbour’s, leading to expensive damage and increased costs for sewage treatment and plant maintenance.
