The family of an Ottawa Valley youth is calling out to the rest of Renfrew County as his need for a donor grows.
A social media campaign is underway, looking for a living kidney transplant for Lucas Gillan, a 17-year-old student from Renfrew living with a rare birth defect, posterior urethral valve, as well as chronic kidney disease.
They explain that Lucas has grown up under the care of both the CHEO and Ottawa Hospital’s nephrology teams, and preparations have begun to start dialysis despite efforts to avoid that step at all costs.
Finding a living donor with a compatible blood type as soon as possible would be ideal, as Lucas’ lab work is pointing towards end-stage kidney failure.
For more information about Lucas’ situation and whether or not you could be a candidate, contact the Ottawa Hospital Living Kidney Donor program at 613-738-8400 ext. 82719 or by email.
