The Downtown Renfrew BIA says a fantastic response to a recent call to action helped get much-needed answers.
BIA Chair Ben Oakes says a full room of engaged and passionate local business owners and community members met with town officials earlier this month, advocating for a clearer picture on changes to the provincial recycling program that will end funding for recycling pick-up at commercial properties in 2026.
He reveals Mayor Tom Sidney and Councillor Jason Legris will be meeting with the Ministry of Environment in the near future to address the concerns brought up at the meeting, adding that he is hopeful for a positive outcome, either through amendments to the new policy or a local solution with the town.
The BIA has also asked for a breakdown from the town’s finance department to better understand how commercial property taxes are calculated and for ways to improve information sharing between the two sides.
