Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources says a recent verdict will help to safeguard moose and deer populations in the Ottawa Valley and beyond.
The ministry says that Scott Nerlich from Pikwakanagan First Nation has pled guilty to unlawful hunting relating to an incident inside Algonquin Provincial Park dating back to October 12th, 2024.
At that time, a conservation officer performing inspections stopped Nerlich in his vehicle and, upon investigation, determined that he was hunting moose and deer without a licence during the closed season and while trespassing in the park.
Nerlich has been fined $3,700 and has been suspended from hunting for two years.
The case was first heard in the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke back on April 14th, with the ruling released by the Ministry over the weekend.
