A beloved local politician is being remembered for her impact following the announcement of her passing.
Admaston/Bromley Township has revealed that former Mayor Raye-Anne Briscoe died on Thursday, August 5th, leaving behind a legacy that began as a township councillor in the early 1970s.
After a twenty-year hiatus from local politics, Briscoe returned to climb the municipal ranks as Deputy Reeve and Reeve before becoming Mayor following amalgamation in 2000, serving the community and the county in the role until 2014.
The township recalls her as an unflappable voice of calm reassurance who left an indelible mark on the community, especially during major moments in the township’s history, such as the massive ice storm of 1998 and amalgamation negotiations at the start of the millennium.
Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon, who worked with Briscoe regularly while she was mayor, calls her passing “a loss for us all,” considering her a trusted advisor, friend, and mentor.
