After eight years at the helm of the MRC Pontiac, Jane Toller feels the need to change course.
Toller has announced over social media that she will not be seeking re-election as the municipality’s warden ahead of ballots being cast this fall, ending a two-term run where she became just the second woman to hold the position since 1847.
Looking back on her time as warden, Toller highlights the successes she and the MRC’s mayors achieved in expanded internet and cellular coverage, increased forestry and agriculture operations, improved road infrastructure and recycling initiatives, trades programs, tourism marketing, and main street revitalization.
She also says her run was marked by many challenges, such as the 2019 floods and COVID-19, as well as a number of potential hospital closures, major power outages, and concerns about potential flooding for fires.
While Toller says becoming warden has been the best job she’s ever had, she believes that she can “accomplish more as a businessperson and will continue to invest and focus on projects that will provide employment and an improvement of health and quality of life” for people living in the Pontiac region.
The 44th Quebec General Election is scheduled for October 5th.
