Renfrew County continues to feel the weekend heat as residents return to work this morning.
Environment Canada’s heat warning will continue for another day as the hottest conditions roll through the Ottawa Valley today, featuring daytime highs between 30 and 34 degrees Celsius and humidex values reaching into the low 40s.
Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health. Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty, seek cool spaces, limit direct exposure to the sun and heat, and be sure to regularly check in with older adults, those living alone, and other at-risk people either in person or by phone.
The weather agency says to watch for the signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others today, including headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, and intense fatigue. If you or someone you know experiences these symptoms, stop what you’re doing and drink water.
Lastly, never leave people, especially children, or pets inside a parked vehicle, as temperatures can quickly rise to dangerous or even fatal levels.
