There are some big changes on the way in Admaston/Bromley as the local landfill gets closer to being completely full.
Township council have adopted a new user-pay system for their waste disposal starting on September 2nd, which will require residents to use $2.50 bag tags in order to send their garbage to the Osceola landfill or the waste transfer stations in Douglas and Stone Road.
The township has begun mailing residential households a pack of 36 bag tags as a courtesy while the transition gets underway.
Next, transparent garbage bags will also be required starting on January 1st in order to better divert and dispose of hazardous and prohibited items. A small “privacy bag” is allowed inside the transparent bag for certain items.
According to the township’s announcement, the decision to switch to a new system is part of a larger concern about the landfill, which has had two emergency expansions in recent years and will be full in approximately 16 years if no changes are made to local waste management.
