On Thursday July 18th, MPP Billy Denault made the announcement at the Douglas Recreation Complex with Mayor Michael Donohue, Mayor Admaston/Bromley, Councillor Keith Gourley and members from our Recreation Committees, Jesse Welch, Robert Lorbetski and Shawn McFarlane.
The MPP for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke’s tour of the region continued late last week as he met with officials in Admaston-Bromley.
Billy Denault met with Township Mayor Michael Donohue, as well as Councillor Keith Gourley and members of their recreation committees, at the Douglas Recreation Complex on Thursday, June 17th, to make a $150,000 grant through the province’s Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund official.
The funding, which is part of a $2 million investment into recreation supports across Renfrew County, will be used to refurbish the two outdoor rinks at both the Douglas and Admaston Recreation Complexes.
The fund is a matching 50/50 grant, with the township having already pooled $150,000 of their own for a total commitment of $300,000, which Deputy Mayor Angela Field explains will both refurbish the rinks and “at the same time give our volunteers a renewed drive and sense of pride.”
Douglas Recreation Committee President Jesse Welch says the work will make the rinks “safer, more accessible and provide a longer skating season during the winter months” while also opening the opportunity to offer new programs like pickleball, tennis, and ball hockey.
The projects are expected to begin in spring 2026.
