Renfrew County will join most of the province as communities brace for a sweltering forecast all week long.
Environment Canada has put the Ottawa Valley under a heat warning through Thursday evening, predicting a prolonged stretch of extreme heat and humidity as daytime highs will reach into the low 30s with humidex values as high as 40.
The weather agency urges residents to take action to protect themselves and others by drinking plenty of water before feeling thirsty and checking up on older adults, those living alone, and other people at risk multiple times a day.
They also say to watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others, warning people to stop activities and drink water if you experience symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine, and intense fatigue.
Close blinds or shades and open windows if outside is cooler than inside. Turn on air conditioning, use a fan, or move to a cooler area of your living space. If your living space is hot, move to a cool public space, such as a cooling centre, community centre, library, or shaded park.
