The town of Renfrew is putting its foot down once more as more people flirt with serious danger along a stretch of the Bonnechere River.
Even with a newly installed steel fence along the river behind the McDougall Mill Museum, the town has seen an increase in trespassers fishing, swimming, and doing other unsafe activities along the dangerous shorelines by the local hydro dam.
They remind residents and visitors that the area is strictly off-limits because water levels and currents are controlled by the dam and could change at a moment’s notice, leading to serious risks of injury and death.
Town staff are asking the community to respect the boundaries put in place for their safety and to help share the notice with children, family members, and friends.
