Residents in the Valley could stand to benefit from a major funding announcement made by the province.
The Ontario government is investing $125 million to boost access to orthopedic surgeries across the province, aiming to add up to 20,000 procedures over the next two years at community surgical centres.
The move is part of a broader effort to improve access to publicly funded health care, including hip and knee replacements. A call for applications to license new surgical centres opened Tuesday, with approvals expected in early 2026.
“While Ontario has the shortest surgical wait times in Canada, we’re taking bold action to connect people to faster, more convenient care,” said Health Minister Sylvia Jones.
The announcement follows last week’s $155 million investment to expand diagnostic services and a $235 million boost to primary care teams. Officials say the investments will help ensure 90 per cent of patients receive orthopedic surgeries within recommended clinical timelines.
The initiative is part of Ontario’s ongoing “Your Health” plan.
