Renfrew's Director of Development and Environment Eric Withers
Renfrew town council is joining forces with their county counterparts to make more room in the local housing market.
Council has approved a memorandum of understanding for a new modular housing development on the Bonnechere Manor property, which will create 40 barrier-free townhouse units.
Director of Development Eric Withers explains that these units will provide more options for local seniors who are not quite ready to move into 470 Albert Street.
Withers adds that the project is almost ready to hit the ground running, and there’s now just one hurdle left now that the partnership is set to become official early next month.
The deal got unanimous approval from council, with Renfrew Reeve and County Warden Peter Emon teasing that more housing collaborations could be on the way following praise from representative Jason Legris.
As part of the deal for the 40 new units, the town would forego $86,000 in revenue from waived development fees and lost parkland value unless the county is able to find enough additional funding to cover the cost.
