The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning area businesses and residents that counterfeit Canadian and American money has recently surfaced in Renfrew County. The fake Canadian notes often feature the words “prop money” in the clear security strip. Seized counterfeit American currency displayed the words “motion picture purposes” in the upper left corner on the front of the bill.
With the discovery of counterfeit money in the area the OPP would like to remind all residents and businesses to perform their due diligence when paying or accepting payment in cash.
Anyone with information regarding counterfeit bills being used is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at www.vallleytips.ca
