Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment have now weighed in on the string of vandalism to signs in Barry’s Bay over the weekend.
Police say on June 17, the UOV OPP began investigating after a municipal official reported that 24 stop signs were either damaged, spray painted or removed at various locations in the town. The damage is believed to have occurred sometime during the overnight hours of June 15-16.
“Damaging or defacing a stop sign is not only a danger to public safety, but also a criminal offence. All the affected stop signs have been replaced,” reads an OPP press release.
Anyone with information or security footage in area of the incidents, who has not already spoken with police, is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 613-757-2600 or Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at www.valleytips.ca.
