Artist in Residence Natalie Kauffman was guest at the Arnprior and District Museum last week, and her compelling installation, “Book on a Wall” enthralls visitors until June 28th.
The installation explores themes of the lived experience of being a child exposed to communal living, anti-establishmentarianism, self-expression, free love, and mind-altering substances in what some view now as a dysfunctional decade.
Oldies spoke with Kauffman at the conclusion of her workshop and public presentation Saturday.
A non-traditional upbringing, to be sure.
Natalie concedes there were some positive aspects instilled from the lifestyle.
To come to terms with the contradictions, Kauffman has chosen visual self-expression.
And the other aspect of dealing with one’s personal history?
What goes around, comes around.
Visit “Book on a Wall”, at the Arnprior and District Museum until the 28th of June- and either ask those questions, or find the answers for yourself.
