Officials at the Township of Madawaska Valley took to social media to report a string of vandalism that occurred over the weekend.
Twenty-eight signs were vandalized and must be replaced, acts that cost the taxpayer nearly $2,000, alongside the cost of staff time to remove and replace these signs.
“Every time something in the township is vandalized, it takes time and money away from other services we need to provide – money that comes from your neighbours, your family, and your own taxes,” reads the notice. “Damaging public assets and spaces is not edgy or heroic – it is selfish and illegal.”
If you or someone you know lives in the vicinity of these intersections and have security or doorbell camera footage that may show the perpetrators in action, please save it and report it to the OPP.
The vandalized signs were found in a number of areas, including: Arena & Highway 60; Sherwood & Highway 60; Old Barry’s Bay & Highway 60; Sandhill & Highway 60; Pinecrest & Sandhill; Sprucedale & Sandhill; Jackpine & Sprucedale; Yantha & Sprucedale; Birchview & Sprucedale; Sprucedale & Lakeview; Peter St N & Peter; Drohan & Highway 60; Drohan & Kelly; Drohan & Peter; Frank & Peter; Conway & Highway 60; Conway & Inglis; MVDS grounds; Lakeshore & Island Ln; Cemetary & Island; Cemetary & Dunn; Lakeshore & Stafford; and St John Bosco school.
