Eight people have been arrested following a major police investigation into a firearm incident at a Petawawa apartment building, but the shooter is still on the run.
The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP responded on March 22, around 10:30 a.m. after a gun was fired in the hallway of a Wolfe Avenue apartment. The shooter fled on foot. No one was hurt, but the unit targeted was occupied by a family and was later found to be mistakenly attacked.
Search warrants were executed on June 5 in both Ontario and Quebec, leading to the arrest of eight people facing 47 charges combined. Police also seized:
-
A 9mm handgun with no serial number
-
Two replica handguns
-
Ammunition
-
Over $2.5 million worth of suspected drugs, including fentanyl, meth, cocaine, and hydromorphone
-
$264,000 in cash
-
$150,000 in jewelry
Despite the arrests, police are still searching for the main suspect. He is described as a white male, aged 30–40, around 5’10” with a thin build, last seen wearing a dark mask, jacket, and pants. He may be in the Montreal area and is considered armed and dangerous.
Police are asking the public to avoid approaching the suspect and to call 9-1-1 if he is seen. Anyone with information, dashcam, or security footage is urged to contact OPP or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
