As part of Take Your MPP to School Day, MPP Billy Denault (Algonquin–Renfrew–Pembroke) visited Renfrew Collegiate Institute this week to learn more about local education and student success.
The event, organized by the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA), ran from May 20–23 and encourages Members of Provincial Parliament to connect with local schools in their ridings. The goal is to raise awareness of both the successes and challenges in Ontario’s public education system.
During his visit, MPP Denault met with students, teachers, and key education leaders including Board Chair Leo Boland, Vice Chair Susan Humphries, Director of Education Kristen Niemi, and Principal Neil Farmer.
The visit focused on the Inspired Learning Framework used by the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB). This approach emphasizes experiential learning and learning partnerships, aligning closely with the province’s push toward core skills and the skilled trades.
“It was a pleasure to host and tour MPP Denault,” said Board Chair Boland. “His enthusiasm for hands-on learning matched the passion of our students and staff. We appreciate his support of student achievement and well-being.”
Director Niemi added, “Public schools are where students build the skills they need for life. Today showed how experiential learning helps them succeed.”
The RCDSB thanked OPSBA for organizing the initiative and MPP Denault for his continued interest in supporting public education in Renfrew County.
