The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested one person following an incident at a cemetery in the area.
On Friday, May 23, just after midnight, officers were called to the cemetery on Lanark Road in Greater Madawaska Township. It was reported that a male was in a vehicle at that location, in possession of a firearm.
Additional officers, including members of the Emergency Response Team, were called to the scene and crisis negotiators also responded. Officers surrounded the vehicle and began communicating with the male.
The individual was taken into custody without incident at approximately 4:30 a.m.
The 55-year-old male has been charged with transporting a firearm in a careless manner.
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on a later date.
