A Renfrew County runner kept pace with some of the world’s best on Sunday as thousands of competitors raced through the nation’s capital.
Cobden’s Tristan Woodfine put up a blistering time of 2:13:21 at this past weekend’s Tartan Ottawa International Marathon, finishing seventh overall and second fastest among Canadians behind fellow elite runner and this year’s runner-up, Rory Linkletter.
Woodfine would stay in the hunt early, sitting within 50 seconds of the lead pace after the first ten kilometres, but he would begin to drop further back before eventually finishing just under five minutes behind the eventual race winner, Albert Korir.
The result marks the 31-year-old’s fastest marathon performance since his personal best of 2:10:39 at the 2024 Chevron Houston Marathon. It was also his best outing during the Ottawa race weekend, beating his 2018 time of 2:18:55.
