To mark Paramedic Services Week May 18-24, County of Renfrew Paramedic Services has been highlighting a day in the life of Paramedic Commander Kody Koepsel.
The Renfrew County Paramedics’ social media featured a number of videos chronicling the many duties and activities that are part of the job, including the vehicle check to start the 12-hour shift.
Among the topics outlined in the online series is the scope and gear required by the Sierra Team, made up of paramedics who are experienced in wilderness settings in various backgrounds. The team is designed to take care of two patients anywhere within the county for up to 24 hours and the gear reflects that mandate.
A member of the Sierra team, Koepsel outlined the team’s kits.
Among the other things chronicled in the series: helping to welcome, train and educate a number of new hires, responding to a variety of emergency calls, including for a severely injured patient; and liaising and supporting a number of fellow paramedics and other health care workers.
